Award: Innovative Small Business Recipient: Nancy Nigh Business: Gone to Pieces Quilt Shop Nancy Nigh became interested in quilting following the death of her grandmother, who left some quilts in her estate. Nancy was attracted to the craft because of its infinite possibilities for colour and texture, line and shape. Nancy launched Gone to Pieces Quilt Shop, recognizing that quilting has a strong following for social as well as creative reasons. Nancy came up with a business idea and, as an unemployed, single parent with no bank support, turned her venture into a great success – not just financially, but socially as well in providing women with a place to partake in their craft, learn new things, and socialize with others who are likeminded. Always creating new reasons for her customers to come back to the store, Nancy has a huge heart and a gentle spirit and, with that and great business instincts, has achieved a level of success of which many only dream.
